Cackle by Rachel Harrison★★★★★
Annie's new best friend is probably too good to be true. She's also probably not entirely human... Sophie's home in upstate New York may be haunted and she may not have aged in ages. Things just get weirder and weirder, like the obnoxious teen in Sophie's class coughing up a live spider or the ghost in Sophie's pool scaring Annie half to death. But horror goes hand in hand with comedy in Harrison's sophomore domestic thriller. It just might make you smile.

The Lost Apothecary by Sarah Penner★★★★★
This story was so much fun. It travels back and forth between the present day and the past. In the present, the main character travels to London alone on what was supposed to be a vacation celebrating her tenth wedding anniversary. On a whim she goes mudlarking, which is when people search the muddy shores of the Thames River to find things that have been discarded by people in the past. She finds a little bottle and decides to do her best to find its origin. Meanwhile in the past storyline, the reader gets to follow the story of that little bottle and how it ended up in the river. It's a historical fiction mystery and now I want to go digging in the mud.

Christine by Stephen King★★★★
A horror story about a classic car that changes the personalities of the young teen who buys "her" and starts to restore "her". He turns from a nerd, into a "greaser" and his best friend tries to warn him, believing it's the car itself that is possessing him.

The Soulmate Equation by Christina Lauren★★★★
- I loved the premise of this book! The whole concept of dating and compatibility based on genetics was so interesting to me. With this concept though, there are a lot of questions. And the book addressed those questions perfectly.

The Echo Wife by Sarah Gailey★★★
The premise and cover of this book drew me on quickly, but the story was not what I was expecting. I had a hard time connecting to the characters and their motives, and found myself feeling more frustrated with the protagonist then on her side most of the book.

Things Have Gotten Worse since We Last Spoke by Eric LaRocca★
A pointless narrative with slasher level unrealistic characters that speak in chat room soliloquies and can’t even maintain a consistent characterization. The relationship in the story moves at such a fast pace that I can’t help but wonder if it’s a dig on uhaul lesbians.

The Midnight Library by Matt Haig★★★★★
In this novel about the afterlife, heaven is like a library. Every book on the shelf is a version of your life if you had just made one different choice. Nora Seed is so unhappy with how her life is going that she decides to end it, and that's when she finds herself in the Midnight Library. She goes through the books and sees what her life would be if she had decided to pursue a career in science, in rock and roll, in swimming, or if she had married one man or another. This book is for anyone who has ever wondered "what if?"

You'll Never Believe What Happened to Lacey by Amber Ruffin; Lacey Lamar★★★★★
This book was fantastic. It's strange to say that a book about racism and microaggressions could be funny but the way Amber Ruffin presents the stories about her sister's experiences is so snarky and funny and sarcastic. It's eye-opening to see the big and small ways that racism impacts Lacey's life. Everyone should read this book. It comes across as not heavy-handed but just matter-of-fact, true stories and how we all need to just do better.

Dial a for Aunties by Jesse Q. Sutanto★★★★
A quick and fun read! The actions of the protagonist are a little unrealistic sometimes, but it honestly only added to the fun if the book. I enjoyed how it all came together in the end, even if some of it was predictable. All and all, a happy diversion from my typical genre.
